Nadine’s Story
I am currently living and working as an artist in the Alpujarra mountains about an hour from Granada, in Andalusia Spain.
Originally I’m from London, where I studied at both Harrow and Camden schools of art,and later, Interior Design at a London University. I worked for over 20 years as a designer, during which time my art was my hobby.
“I was influenced greatly by 2 teachers in my life: a former collage teacher, who taught me how to look at pattern shape and form, working mainly with paper, and my textile teacher, with whom I worked over a period of eight years, developing techniques in water colour, with a particular interest in pattern relating to form and texture.”
I developed textures, pattern and form from their teachings and now continue to work in many different media and all eminate vibrant colours. The light in Andalucia, has had a profound effect on my use of colour.
I believe that it is possible to create a fantasy world in my paintings, because I look at nature and remember the mood of a place or event and this brings an utter transformation and a new mysterious momentum can be created in each new painting. I enjoy exaggerated forms, which challenge the imagination and often the source of my inspiration comes from poetry and music. I believe that a painting can evoke different moods: some tranquil and lonely, some loud and bold, some soft and delicate, some passionate and others mysterious.
